We strive to combine academic knowledge on marine environs with experiential learning opportunities for all ages. They create lifelong experiences, knowledge and skills to protect and conserve marine environment. We conduct awareness programs at the Centre, specially targeting, but not limited to, children. We encourage research on ocean science and provide internship opportunities to a few university students annually..

05

Gender Equality: Achieve gender equality and empower all women and girls

We promote gender equality by providing direct and indirect employment to women. Our Centre promotes women to engage in recreational diving, nursery management and in the educational programs we conduct.

Clean Water and Sanitation: Ensure availability and sustainable management of water and sanitation for all.

In the sea, water devoid of man made pollutants is a pre-requisite for coral growth, something we monitor constantly. At the Centre on shore, we provide clean water and sanitation facilities. As we want to preserve water, we do rain water harvesting to maintain our facilities and equipment.

07

Affordable and Clean Energy: Ensure access to affordable, reliable, sustainable and modern energy for all.

We refrain from using diesel motors for our boats. We strive to conserve energy at the Centre, keeping the use of electricity to a bare minimum. We plan to use solar energy for our Centre when it becomes feasible.

The Centre is at the forefront of its innovative space, backed not only academic knowledge, but also by professionals who have years long experience in difficult underwater fabrications, going beyond leisure diving. In addition, the Centre has gained valuable learning and knowledge gathered through long years, encompassing the entire life cycle of corals, seeing their growth from mere nubbings to fully grown corals, followed by monitoring to ensure sustainability. Our Centre itself is constructed using Reduce, Recycle, Reuse and Upcycle concepts to uphold resilience for crisis situation and further expansion if required.

Reduced Inequality: Reduce inequality within and among countries.

The Centre is a place for North-South and South-South cross learning and sharing of experiences. We welcome all foreign nationals and local enthusiasts for diving, education, and research with equal treatment.

Sustainable Cities and Communities: Make cities and human settlements inclusive, safe, resilient, and sustainable.

Our Centre is located in the very heart of Colombo, right next to one of Asia’s busiest ports. Our presence, we believe, will help at least in a small way, to make Colombo City marine environs beautiful, safe and sustainable for the City’s growing population.

Responsible Consumption and Production: Ensure sustainable consumption and production patterns.

The Centre consumes what is really required with no or bare minimum wastage. We plan to harvest rainwater and solar power for our operations to reduce the carbon footprint.

13

Climate Action: Take urgent action to combat climate change and its impacts.

Our focus has always been direct action to protect marine environment, using our skills and limited resources, not limiting ourselves to academic knowledge.

14

Life Below Water: Conserve and sustainably use the oceans, seas, and marine resources for sustainable development.

Protecting coral reefs, establishing coral nurseries are actions fundamental for sustainable use of oceans, seas and marine resources.

15

Life on Land: Protect, restore, and promote sustainable use of terrestrial ecosystems, sustainably manage forests, combat desertification, and halt and reverse land degradation and halt biodiversity loss.
